Chair, Membership

The Association for Canadian Jewish Studies seeks a membership chair to join its executive leadership team beginning in September 2026.

We seek a highly organized, enthusiastic, and creative membership chair to support membership growth, retention, and engagement while overseeing the ACJS’s membership administration. The membership coordinator will take a hands-on role in strategizing the ACJS’s current and future membership structure for individuals and institutions, the relationship between the organization and its members, and how to encourage member involvement across a variety of ACJS programs.

As a member of the ACJS executive committee, the membership chair is expected to join monthly team meetings and attend the organization’s Annual General Meeting each spring. The membership chair is also expected to participate in the broader life of the ACJS and is invited to contribute ideas, programmatic or otherwise, that support its mission. The ACJS is a registered Canadian non-profit; some familiarity with non-profit administration would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary point of contact for membership inquiries, ensuring timely and professional communication with prospective and current members.

  • Maintain up-to-date membership records and databases.

  • In concert with ACJS leadership team, design and implement strategies to retain and increase organization’s membership that align with broader organizational goals.

  • Represent and promote the ACJS to prospective individual and institutional members.

  • Write and distribute calls for new membership and membership renewals.

This is an unpaid academic service position best suited for an individual keen to get involved with behind-the-scenes administration of a growing national academic organization. Applicants, however, need not be academics. All is work is remote.

The membership chair is also expected to participate in the broader life of the ACJS and is invited to contribute ideas, programmatic or otherwise, that support its mission. Some knowledge of and/or interest in the history and culture of Canadian Jewry is considered an asset.

Please send a resume along with one or two paragraphs describing your fit for the role to info@canadianjewishstudies.ca by September 18, 2026.

This position is subject to executive committee approval per ACJS bylaws.
